Dimensions of divinity that exhibit female qualities, especially motherhood (DVC, 23). The recent popularity and promotion of sacred feminine comes from those who claim that male-dominated societies have sought to eliminate the feminine aspects of the divine to suppress women. In The Da Vinci Code, Robert Langdon accuses the Roman Catholic Church of creating a smear campaign against Mary Magdalene in order to exclude women from church leadership (238). Many advocates of sacred-feminine religion ignore or discount the abundance of female figures extolled in Judeo-Christian writings and the many teachings of Jesus requiring followers to treat all people with love and respect. Worship of the sacred feminine is based on self-exploration and finding holiness from within, in opposition to the Creator being distinct from creation.
